Several volunteers of the Halfway Home Pet Rescue in Caribou recently met for a 150-minute training session at the home of Robyn Smith, vice president of the group, on cat adoption issues. According to Norma Milton, president of the pet rescue, the purpose of the training was to ensure that each member of the adoption team will use the same approximate interview techniques and will be aware of the occasional “red flags” that might tip the interviewer off about potential problems with the adoption such as a personality clash that might exist with other pets in the household. The adoption training was an interesting compilation of everyone’s ideas on what worked best to understand the needs of potential adopters and then to analyze those needs and the specific cat the family was considering or to perhaps suggest a different personality. Role-playing was done with some volunteers interviewing for adoption and other volunteers applying for cat adoption. Attending the meeting were, from left, Kelly Normandin, Sherry Hewitt, Becky Brady, Mary Rowe, Vince Barnett, Robyn Smith and Eugene Katsman. Milton was not present for the photo. HHR offers adoption hours on each Saturday afternoon from noon to 3 p.m. at the pet rescue’s new location at 489 South Main St.
