STOCKHOLM — What happened in Vegas to one local Miss America contestant didn’t exactly stay in Vegas as a portion of her quest for the coveted crown was aired on national television Saturday night.
Stockholm native Molly Bouchard, 2012’s Miss Maine, was one of a handful of contestants featured in an ABC “20/20” special that aired right before the pageant. The documentary followed the young ladies for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their grueling schedules during the days leading up to the big event.

The Caribou High School graduate and Boston Conservatory senior was shown competing in the preliminary talent, evening gown, interview and swimsuit segments of the pageant. She also created a few waves by calling out some of her fellow contestants for making what she referred to as “snide” comments to her during the competition. But Bouchard seemed to take it all in stride and pushed through with a healthy attitude.
During the introduction of herself in the pageant’s broadcast, Bouchard paid homage to Aroostook County by informing the audience that she was from the crown of Maine. Ultimately it was Miss New York, Mallory Hagan, who won the pageant, but Bouchard’s grandmother, Millie Forbes, said her granddaughter was pleased over all.
“Molly didn’t place, but she was happy anyway,” Forbes, who was also in Vegas for the festivities, said. “She enjoyed the experience.”
Forbes advised that her granddaughter had returned to Boston, and Bouchard posted an announcement that she was engaged to be married on her Facebook page after the competition. Bouchard could not be reached for comment at press time.
