PRESQUE ISLE — A comedian making a name for himself touring with fellow Maine humorist Bob Marley will be returning to Aroostook County on Saturday, Jan. 19, for a performance at the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center.

Krazy Jake, as he’s known, has been working as a stand-up comedian for about a year, but has been in the comedy business for several years.

Originally from Bar Harbor, Jake moved to Los Angeles after winning a talent show and appeared in numerous television comedies and movies. Jake came back to Maine about 10 years ago to help care for his father and decided he wanted to remain in his home state.

“This is where I’m supposed to be,” Jake commented. “It would take something astronomically huge to get me to leave.”

Similar to his friend Marley, whom he has known for over 20 years and credits with getting him into the world of stand-up, Jake models his humor after what he calls “the typical Mainer.”

“When I lived in LA,” Jake recalled, “my friends used to ask me to put my family on speaker phone just to hear them talk. Mainers are definitely unique.”

Jake, who comes from a family of fishermen, now lives in Falmouth with his wife and four children, ranging in age from 3 to mid-teen,

“I’m not exactly a Falmouth type of guy if you know what I mean. I roll up to the school in my flannel and eyebrows rise,” the comedian joked.

In December of 2012, Krazy Jake opened for Marley at the Caribou Performing Arts Center as part of a fundraiser for the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department. He was impressed with the reception he received from a County audience and looks forward to his trip back.

“I love Aroostook County,” Jake said. “There’s something about the atmosphere there. You feel so appreciated.”

Jake considers himself extremely fortunate to be touring with Marley and is enjoying the opportunity it has given him to build a following for himself.

“There’s a lot to be said for performing with New England’s most popular comedian,” Jake admitted.

Comedian Troy Pennell, who is popular in the Portland area, will be opening for Krazy Jake during his Presque Isle show.

“Troy is extremely intelligent and does upscale humor — and then I come out,” Jake explained with a laugh.

Tickets for The Krazy Jake Comedy Show can be purchased at York’s Books and the North St. Food Trend in Houlton, Haney’s Building Specialties in Caribou, or at the Presque Isle Inn & Convention Center in advance or at the door. The cost is $15 per person.
