Comedy finds a home in Houlton

The New Year brings with it a new series of events at Houlton Community Arts Center featuring stand-up comedy favorites and Maine humorists. First on the Houlton Community Arts Center stage is Southern Maine’s Erik Gunderson and Johnny Ater on Saturday, Jan. 12.
Gunderson started his comedy career in Phoenix, Az. and within a year he was a regular in the Phoenix comedy scene. Gunderson moved back to Maine in 2009 and has been making New England audiences laugh since with stories of his crazy family and roller-coaster life style.
Ater is a husband and a dad to two “wicked awesome kids.” By day, he is a painting contractor and by night, Ater is one of New England’s favorite standup comics. Ater has been making audiences laugh since 2003. One moment he is taking light-hearted swipes at himself (and fellow Mainers) and the next he is contorting his face in the most amazingly goofy ways. You will walk away from a show remembering Ater’s faces, it’s most definitely his “signature” style.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door and can be purchased online at http://atergunderson. eventbrite.com or call 1-888-422-1278.
The Comedy Series will continue with author, actor, and stand-up comedian, Jimmy Dunn, taking to the Houlton Community Arts Center stage on March 9 followed by Wicked Good Band on April 30 and Bob Marley on June 1. Call 1-888-422-1278, go to www.houltonarts.org or “like” Houlton Community Arts Center on Facebook to stay informed about the comedy series events and other events to benefit Houlton Community Arts Center.
All proceeds from the show benefit the Houlton Community Arts Center.
