PRESQUE ISLE — Presque Isle Youth Hockey invites elementary school-aged boys and girls to try their hand at ice hockey. Twice a week, a group of young children meets at the Forum to learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment. The association is offering a reduced rate of $40 for children joining in January.
“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport,” said Bob Davis, coach of the instructional program. “To help keep costs reasonable for parents, we can provide first-year players with equipment free of charge. This is a great way for kids to learn, make new friends, and have the winter go by quickly!”
This instructional program is coached by individuals who are trained by USA Hockey and Hockey Canada to ensure skills are taught properly and in a safe environment. Coaches encourage good nutrition, good sportsmanship, and teamwork. And for a state that has an alarming obesity rate among children, hockey is an excellent form of exercise.
The instructional program meets on Monday from 5:15-6 p.m. and Wednesday from 5:30-6:15 p.m. All participants must register with USA Hockey online. Children ages six and under can register for free. For children age seven and above, there is an additional charge of $42. The program runs through the month of February.
