CASTLE HILL — A local man seriously injured in a car-ATV accident Dec. 28 died Jan. 2 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he had been taken for treatment following the accident.

Sgt. Forrest Dudley of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office said Wendell Denbow, 52, of Castle Hill, was critically injured around 8 a.m. while using his ATV to plow snow at a residence on the Haystack Road. Dudley said Denbow was injured when he backed his ATV into the path of a 2007 Toyota Camry being driven eastbound by Bethany Morton, 23, of Ashland.

Morton was reportedly unable to stop, striking the ATV and knocking Denbow from the machine. Denbow was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center and later air-lifted to EMMC. Morton was not injured.

Dudley said poor road conditions and visibility factored into the crash. No charges are pending.

A funeral service for Denbow was held Tuesday, January 8, at the Mapleton Baptist Church, with Dr. Rev. Kenneth Phelps officiating.
