Wildcats survive toughest test

The PI girls put together a strong second half against MDI Saturday to stay undefeated, while the Ashland girls earned their first win of the season that same day. Summaries of girls games played through Saturday are as follows:
Presque Isle 55, Mount Desert Island 46 — Trailing at halftime, the Wildcats registered the victory at home Saturday thanks to outscoring the Trojans, 31-21, during the third and fourth periods.
Krystal Kingsbury hit all eight of her free throw attempts and finished with 14 points to lead the Wildcat offense. Chandler Guerrette and Meredith Stewart scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Hannah Shaw scored 16 for MDI, which suffered its first loss of the season.
PI is now 8-0 and remains atop the Eastern Maine Class B standings.
Ashland 57, East Grand 36 — The Hornets, losers of their first four games, broke into the win column for the first time by racing past the visiting Vikings of Danforth Saturday.
Caitlin Paradis led the way with 15 points, followed by 12 each from Marissa Chasse and Sophie Theriault.
Elisha Farley led 1-4 East Grand with 11 points.
Fort Kent 65, Central Aroostook 40 — The Warriors swept the season series with the Panthers by cruising to the home win Saturday.
Chelsey Plourde had 20 points in the winning effort, while Kayla Cushman struck for 23 to lead 2-4 Central Aroostook.

Presque Isle 79, Ellsworth 38 — The Wildcats had six different players combine for 11 three-point field goals in their Friday night rout at Presque Isle.
Guerrette led the scoring with 17 points, followed by Hannah Graham with 13 and Kingsbury and Regan Nelson with 11 each.
Morgan Card’s 12 points were tops for the Eagles, who trailed 20-4 after the first quarter and never recovered.
Hodgdon 47, Central Aroostook 43 — The Panthers were unable to slow down the perimeter shooting of Mariah Wiley, who netted six three-point field goals en route to 24 points in Friday’s game played at Mars Hill.
Olivia Garrison scored 12 points and Sarah Grass added 11 for CA.
Van Buren 44, Easton 39 — At Easton, Parise Rossignol erupted for 36 points, with 26 coming in the first half, as the Crusaders held off the Bears Friday.
Hannah Ferris and Carla Halvorson netted 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Easton. Halvorson also hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
Easton 57, Greater Houlton Christian Academy 44 — At the University of Maine at Presque Isle last Wednesday in a home game for the Eagles, Easton came out on top with a strong second half after the game was tied at 27 at intermission.
Ferris scored 12 points and Halvorson was also in double figures with 10 to lead the Bears. Cassie Buck and Kylee Carter each tossed in nine.
Destinee Neureuther poured in 16 for GHCA.
Presque Isle 80, Foxcroft Academy 29 — The Wildcats improved to 6-0 by coasting past the Ponies in Dover-Foxcroft Dec. 22.
PI jumped out to a 15-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never was threatened. Guerrette and Kingsbury scored 16 points each and Megan Ireland netted 15 more for the Wildcats. Nelson came off the bench to score eight more.
Mackenzie Coiley had 15 points to pace FA’s offense.
Fort Fairfield 46, Easton 33 — At Easton Dec. 21, Whitney McNamee scored 12 points, Jessica Goshorn added eight and Nicole Giberson seven to key the Tigers’ win.
Halvorson scored 14 points for the Bears.
