Carroll James Miller
passed away on December 13, 2012. Carroll was born in Mars Hill, ME, on September 17, 1922, to Guy and Elizabeth Miller. Carroll married Dorothy Louise McCullough on June 4, 1947. His wife of 59 years preceded him in death in 2006. He attended school in Mars Hill, and graduated from the Aroostook School of Commerce in Presque Isle.
In 1987, he retired from UPS in Hartford, CT. Two years later, he and Dorothy moved to Florida. In their retirement years they enjoyed driving and flying to visit family and friends from Colorado to Maine with a few stops in between. Carroll enjoyed fishing, hunting, flea markets and flying radio controlled model airplanes.
He was a decorated WWII veteran, serving as a Rifleman in the 29th Infantry Division from France and into Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, E.T.O. Medal with three bronze stars, and a Certificate of Gratitude from the French Consulate. He was a member of the 29th Division Association, The American Legion, and lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Carroll was a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes, Catholic Church in Deltona, FL.
He is survived by his three children, Paula (Peter) Webber, Wayne Miller, and Karen (Dan) Weigold. He has five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Ron Fahle; and nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; Guy and Elizabeth Miller; his wife, Dorothy; his brothers, William in 1939, Guy Jr. in 1996; and his sister, Frances in 2012.
His interment service will be determined at a later date and held at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Rte 74, Vernon Rockville, CT. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
