Daughters of Isabella celebrate the season

The Daughters of Isabella held their Christmas party and meeting at the parish center on Dec. 4, 2012. A delicious meal catered by Cindy’s Sub Shop was enjoyed by the 46 members and guests present.

A 50/50 raffle in the amount of $58 was won by Lorraine Morin Montieth.

Birthdays for the month of December were announced and Theresa Wunderlich was the recipient of a small gift. Happy birthday was sung. Members brought gifts for the layettes and several items were donated to replenish the layettes. Beautiful baby quilts handmade by Omerine Cyr and also several sweater sets were donated by member Jeanne Beaulieu. It was reported that five layettes were given out at the local hospital last month. Regent Gail displayed a completed layette worth over $100 each.

It was announced that member Thelma Morin would be receiving her 25-year pin in the Daughters of Isabella. Religious Christmas cards are available for sale through the Faith Formation Office to raise money for Faith Formation.

Welcome back was extended to member Doris Martin returning from her stay in Tennessee for the past several months.

Daughters were asked to furnish sweets for the reception for Bishop Richard Malone which was held Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood in Caribou.

A letter from our international Regent, Christiane Chagnon, was read by Regent Gail wishing everyone a blessed and Merry Christmas and a joyful and Happy New Year. She shared the legend of the candy cane with members. A Christmas card and note received from member Vi Willard was read to members. Vi sends her greetings from sunny Florida. She shared that she enjoys reading about our monthly meetings in the local newspaper. A greeting card was received from member Phyllis Belanger wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Kudos to Bea Pirie on the beautiful Christmas song handbooks which were presented to the circle last Christmas. A card and money gift was presented to Regent Hjort on behalf of the circle for her hard work and dedication to the circle by Vice Regent Mary Ellen Fields. Money gifts and cards were also presented to Father Jean Paul LaBrie and Father Emile Dube. Cards and a small token of appreciation were given to all the officers by Regent Hjort.

Discount cards are available for sale by our members. It makes a great gift that keeps on giving all year.

Guests were Tricia Woods, Lillian Mattila, Gloria Hebert and Paitynn Wing (one month old).

Regent Hjorts thanked the refreshment committee for this evening’s celebration. The decorations were beautiful and the table décor made it festive for the party that followed. Committee members were chairwoman Debbie Chabre, Madeline Guerrette, Kristina McEwen, Sharon Ellis, Julie Goodale and Dolores D. Martin.

Next month’s committee will be Omerine Cyr, chairwoman, Josephine St. Peter, Lorraine Montieth, Jan Corriveau and Brenda Corriveau.

Guest Gloria Hebert then led in singing and playing several Christmas carols on her guitar. Exchange of gifts followed, Many door prizes were given out and members and guests went home with the joys of the season.
