LUDLOW — The town is in need of a new treasurer following the abrupt resignation of Norene Foster.
Foster, who served as the town’s treasurer for two and a half years, resigned from her position on Dec. 6. The Ludlow Board of Selectmen learned of the resignation during their regular monthly meeting on Dec. 12, according to Town Manager Diane Hines.
Foster was not believed to be in attendance at that meeting. She also declined to comment on the reasons for her resignation when contacted by the Houlton Pioneer Times.
An emergency meeting was called Dec. 13, during which time the board of selectmen gave Hines the authority to sign checks so that employees could receive their paychecks or bills could be paid. Hines said she would likely serve in this capacity until a replacement treasurer is hired. The position will be advertised, she added.
“We had to do something because bills were due and employees want to get paid,” Hines said.
Hines added that when signing payroll checks to herself, it would be supervised by one of the selectmen. Ludlow’s three-member Board of Selectmen are Virginia McCain, Donna Austin and Gregory Dow. The treasurer’s position is part-time with the town.
Hines is also the town manager and treasurer for Hammond.
