Lukas im Dorf
mentors Presque Isle music students
“Music is a world within itself. It’s a language we all understand.” – Stevie Wonder.
Community members found this out recently when four musicians from four different countries took the stage at Presque Isle Middle School.

Lukas im Dorf (“Lukas in the Village”) was in Aroostook County to work with students from SAD 1. The jazz ensemble hails from Vienna, Austria, but trombonist Phil Yaeger is originally from Westfield. The group recently performed in Washington, DC and took the opportunity to visit the region while in the United States.
Over the course of two days, they held workshops with both the middle school and high school jazz bands and performed concerts at all three elementary schools in the district, teaching about their instruments, practice and hard work, and how music is a common language for all humankind.
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, they performed a free public concert at Presque Isle Middle School. The group consists of bassist Lukas Kranzezlbinder from Vienna, saxophonist Jure Pukl from Slovenia, drummer Max Andrzejeweski from Germany and Yaeger, who now resides in Vienna.
The two days of workshops and concerts were sponsored by Aroostook Partners in the Arts, SAD 1 Music Boosters, PI Elementary PTO, Mapleton Parents’ Organization and SAD 1.
