8th-grade boys win three decisively

The Caribou Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team easily got past Madawaska, Ashland and Fort Kent in recent play.

In a 61-16 win over Madawaska Nov. 15, Nick Allen scored 21 points, while Dominick Judd and Matt Nadeau added nine and eight, respectively. Josiah Krul, Connor Plourde and Noah Frost scored six points apiece for the winners, while Bailey Griffeth and Zach Wright led the charge defensively.

On Nov. 26, Caribou bested Ashland, 47-10. Judd and Noah Heidorn were in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Frost had seven and Griffeth five, while Dawson Hebert contributed numerous assists in the contest.

The following day, the Vikings again won big, 88-29 over Fort Kent.  Judd tallied 20 points, Allen had 13 and Krul 12 for CMS. Wright and Frost had eight each and Hebert added seven. Heidorn (six), Nadeau (six), Griffeth (five) and Seth Beidelman (three) were others entering the scoring column for coach Steve Perreault’s team.

Nine wrestlers medal at PVHS tournament

Nine members of the Caribou varsity wrestling team placed among the top four at Saturday’s preseason tournament held at Penobscot Valley High School in Lincoln.

Taking gold medals were Trevonte Caudill, Brendan Wood and Matthew Manter, while silver medals went to Rebecca King and Dustin DeMerchant.

Colton Conley and Aaron Simon captured bronze medals and fourth-place medals were earned by Axios Gerakaris and Kevin Bither.

Alumni game slated

An alumni basketball game, featuring former players from Presque Isle against former players from Caribou, is being organized by the 2013 Project Graduation Committee at Caribou High School.

The event will take place Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Caribou High School beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a women’s game and a men’s game. Anyone wishing to participate should contact Shelley Massey at smassey@maine.rr.com or by telephone at 554-7504.

Pass allows for unlimited skiing at MWSC venues

The Maine Winter Sports Center has available a Ski Again Pass, which gives skiers unlimited skiing at all MWSC facilities for $150 for the 2012-13 season.

Included in the pass are Bigrock Mountain in Mars Hill, Black Mountain in Rumford, Pineland Farms Nordic Center in New Gloucester, the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle and the 10th Mountain Center in Fort Kent.

Passes can be purchased online at bigrockmaine.com.

Baseball trip

The 11th annual Fantasy Baseball Trip, offered through the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville, will be held July 24-28, 2013. The trip is organized by Vaughn Clark and the cost is $825 with a $150 deposit and a monthly payment plan available.

The game schedule for the 2013 trip includes: July 24, Atlanta Braves at New York Mets; July 25, Pittsburgh Pirates at Washington Nationals; July 26 and 27, Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles; and July 28, Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees.
