Participants will be able to decorate holiday cookies, write letters to Santa, color holiday pictures and have their picture taken with the MSSM mascot, the penguin. This event is free and open to the public. No pre-registration is required. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate. For more information, contact Sara Martin at 325-4791 or rec@limestonemaine.org.

Hallways open for walking

The Limestone Recreation Department is inviting all area community members to get out of the cold air and participate in a winter walking program taking place in the Limestone Community School hallways.

Community members are encouraged to come to the school Monday through Friday between the hours of 3-6:30 p.m. and walk the halls. Free pedometers are available through the recreation department. A sign-in sheet for the program is located outside the door of the recreation center. All those participating are required to sign in and out each night they participate. Strollers are also welcome, as long as they have rubber wheels. This program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Martin.

Fitness room

The Limestone Recreation Department has announced the opening of the fitness room located in the Limestone Community School. The fitness room is open to community use Monday through Friday from 4:30-7:45 p.m. except on days when basketball games are held at the school. There is no charge to use the facility. Individuals using the facility are asked to enter the side door that is labeled, “Fitness Room Entrance” located on the right side of the Limestone Community School building.

Waiver forms are located in the fitness room and participants must fill theirs out prior to exercising. Waivers need to be filled out once per calendar year. Those attending are also asked to sign in and out each night on the sheet available in the fitness room.

Benefit basketball tourney

The Limestone Recreation Department will hold its first Winter Tip-off benefit co-ed basketball tournament Dec. 8 from 1-8 p.m. in the Veteran’s Gymnasium. The department has partnered with the Maine School of Science and Mathematics to hold this tournament, with all proceeds to benefit the Caribou Soup Kitchen’s ceiling project.

The cost to participate is $30 per team and area community members are invited to come and enjoy watching the tournament – or enter a team of their own. The Limestone SnowHawks, the area snowmobile club, will be offering refreshments for individuals to enjoy as a fundraiser for their club throughout the tournament. Door prizes will also be given out throughout the event and include: sports memorabilia, tickets to sporting events, apparel, gym passes to local fitness clubs, coupons and gift certificates to local businesses, and more.
