Military ball — One of the social events of the season took place Thanksgiving evening when Co. L. N. G. S. M. gave their annual ball in the Opera House. The hall was artistically decorated with buntings, flags and the union jack lavishly used complimentary to the guests from across the border.
Fashion furs — Sincock’s millinery store advertises their services in remodeling and relining your fur neck pieces and muffs.

Lights for schoolhouse — In Linneus, there will be a social at the Corner School House on Friday evening. The money raised will be used toward having electric lights installed in the school building. Everybody welcome.

This photograph was taken about the year 1912, when the building was in good condition. Now a gaping hole in the side of Market Square marks the spot were once the Snell House stood.
Strapping on skates — Freezing temperatures have enabled the young people of this vicinity to participate in the first skating of the season on the Mill Pond. All day Sunday, large groups from Sherman Station, Benedicta and Sherman covered the ice and in the evening a large bon fire was built which illuminated the pond and warmed cold fingers.

Deer tagging records — Ira Myrick of Patten, who has been tagging deer for better than 20 years, has this year registered his highest total of 451 deer at his station, a number which bettered the old (ten-year) record set in 1959 of 449 and far exceeded last year’s poorest number of only 247 deer.
In the Navy — Dennis P. Drew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Drew of Houlton, recently completed recruit training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Ill. where John N. Barker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elliot E. Barker of Bridgewater, is currently undergoing nine weeks of basic recruit training. Kenneth W. Welton, electrician’s mate fireman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Welton of Houlton, is attending Motion Picture Operator’s School at the Naval Schools Command Center in Norfolk, Va.

In the holiday spirit — Twelve local businesses will be participating in the Christmas window decorating contest sponsored by Houlton’s Downtown Revitalization Committee. Customers will serve as judges by picking up a ballot at one of the following businesses: McLaughlin Textile; Sherwin-Williams; TC Fashions; Shop ‘n Save; Lads, Lassies and Ladies; Goodrich Jewelry; Good and Plenty; Bither’s Fashions; Dead River Co.; Mainely Music; Bridal Corner and Houlton Sports Center.
Mortgage burning — Pastor and Mrs. Paul Jackson and the congregation of the New Limerick Free Will Baptist Church are announcing the church debt is paid in full. The $17,000 mortgage note was recently set on fire as the congregation observed.
