A damaged electrical line is being blamed for a power outage that left residents in Presque Isle and East Chapman without power early Tuesday morning.

“A power line pulled apart and came down, tripping the circuit around 4:24 a.m. on Nov. 27, affecting two feeds to the hospital and residents and businesses in the surrounding area,” said Susan Faloon, communications director for Bangor Hydro Electric.

Faloon said a Maine Public Service crew was notified and responded to investigate.

“They found the problem was on the hospital line itself. They were able to restore service to The Aroostook Medical Center by 6:28 a.m.,” Faloon said.

She indicated power was restored to all other customers affected by the outage by 6:12 a.m.

“In all, 745 customers were affected on the south side of Presque Isle,” said Faloon.
