Hello from half way through November! Wow, that sure went by fast! I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is upon us, until I look at all the bulletin board displays of thankfulness.
Just watching the recent news of Hurricane Sandy’s fierce destruction, I think each of us can think of many more things to be thankful for. Our thoughts and well wishes go out to all the students whose education was interrupted for so long, and to all those displaced and in despair. Just a reminder to us all that we should help support food pantries and other charities when we can and in any way we can!
We have completed our first quarter of school and parents met with teachers to receive report cards and to discuss any problems, concerns, or “way to go’s.” As we head into Quarter 2, a reminder to all students to “choose your attitude” when it comes to school and homework; just dig your heels in and face each day positively!

Showing off one of the projects are, from left, Eva McLaughlin, Alyiah McLaughlin, Lisa Winship and Alyiah Winship.
Our basketball teams have taken to the hardwood and are working hard on the skills and working fluidly as a team. Take the time to come watch your son or daughter play, and pull some friends along with you. There’s nothing like looking up into the stands and seeing faces you know are there to watch you.
Also, congratulations to our boys’ soccer team for finishing their season as co-champions! Great job, guys!
A few notes from our after school program. Girl Scouts under the direction of Lisa Winship and Eva McLaughlin have had a great time learning and doing special craft projects to complete some badge requirements. Another troop, under the direction of Deb Ganzel, conducted a drive for products to be sent to Haiti refugees. It’s so important for us all to remember it’s not all about us to pay it forward any way you can. Thanks for teaching these girls the importance of giving and sacrificing for others.
After school students and staff were treated to a special activity called, “Recess Rocks.” Yvonne Hyman came in for an afternoon of crazy movement and followed that up with staff training to allow us to do this activity more often. What a blast!
Our Lego robotics challenge team is running dress rehearsals for their upcoming meet in Augusta. This competition is being held on December 8th at the Augusta Civic Center. If you’ve ever played with Lego products, I think you would find this competition fascinating! Coach Rob Goulet would love to have some local support, as would the students.
Before you dive into your fancy dinner, take a moment to reflect on your blessings. Think of the millions who are in dire situations and you will gain a thankful heart. Happy Thanksgiving from the students and staff at Mill Pond!
