ORIENT — On Sunday, at approximately 7:35 p.m. Maine State Trooper Jared Sylvia responded to a single vehicle crash on the Number 9 Road approximately 2.2 miles from the intersection of U.S. Route 1. It was reported that the vehicle was on fire and one male subject had significant injuries.
The driver, Micah Bartlett, 46 from Orient, was operating his 2007 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck traveling east on the Number 9 Road. On a sharp corner, the vehicle went off the road, rolled, struck some trees, and caught fire. The first person on scene, Timothy McKissick, reported that when he arrived Bartlett was out of the vehicle near the roadway and was on fire.
Bartlett was transported from the scene by the Northern Washington/Southern Aroostook Ambulance Service and was flown by Life Flight to Eastern Maine Medical in Bangor and later to Mass General in Massachusetts. Bartlett is in critical condition and received burns to approximately 70 percent of his body.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.  Sylvia was assisted at the scene by troopers Timmy Saucier and Nicholas Casavant and the Danforth Fire Department.
Attempts to get an update on Bartlett’s condition at Mass General Tuesday morning were not successful.
