FORT FAIRFIELD — Several community organizations are teaming up to host the annual Thanksgiving dinner this week.
“The Fort Fairfield Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus and VFW, together with many other local service organizations and businesses, are once again coming together to provide a free Seniors Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner,” said Fort Fairfield Rotary Club President/Public Relations Carl Young.
A holiday tradition in Fort Fairfield for over 25 years, Young said the event provides a turkey dinner with all the fixings to Fort Fairfield senior citizens who otherwise might not have a holiday dinner to enjoy.
“Typically more than 75 citizens attend the dinner and enjoy the fellowship and entertainment at the local VFW Hall, while more than 90 who cannot come out have dinner delivered to their homes by volunteer drivers,” said Young.
According to Young, leftover prepared dinners are donated and delivered to Homeless Services of Aroostook, located in Presque Isle.
This year’s event will be held Thursday, Nov. 22, at the VFW Hall located on Presque Isle Street (Route 1A). The serving of dinner begins at 11:30 a.m.
