PRESQUE ISLE — Individuals with several local organizations will be taking part in the annual Holiday Light Parade through downtown Presque Isle Dec. 1, collecting items for their agencies as they make their way through the city.

“The Aroostook Medical Center will continue its 100th anniversary celebration by serving refreshments at the North Street walk-in clinic before the parade. Line-up for the parade starts at 5:30 p.m., with step-off at 7 p.m. sharp,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director, Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce.

The parade will follow Main Street from North Street to Gentile Hall at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, where Fowler said hot chocolate and cookies will be served to parade participants and supporters. Plans are for the UMPI Christmas tree to be lit on Dec. 1 as well.

“Catholic Charities of Maine will be collecting food during the parade. The Central Aroostook Humane Society will use their new van to collect donations for the shelter, such as newspapers, food, etc.,” said Fowler.

In addition, Presque Isle area pageant queens will be collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program.

“While you’re braving the cold to watch the Presque Isle tradition, be a part of it by bringing a gift with you. Northern Aroostook children will appreciate every donation,” said Ariana Patterson, mom to two of the queens: Miss Presque Isle 2012 Hanna Patterson and Junior Miss Potato Blossom 2012 Lydia Patterson.

In addition, Patterson said raffle tickets recently went on sale for a brand new snow sled, with proceeds going to Toys for Tots.

“The drawing will be held the night of the parade. Only 700 tickets are being sold, at $10 each,” said Patterson.

“Remember, the queens are more than six pretty faces. They are going to make a difference this holiday season,” said Patterson. “Help them by bringing a toy to the Light Parade. They will be collecting toys as they make their way through town. Be sure to look for their float at the end of the parade.”
