MAPLETON JUNIOR GIRL SCOUT TROOP 1133 LO-MAPLETON-DC1X-SH-47 invited former State Rep. Mabel Desmond to a recent troop meeting. Desmond, who served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives, spoke to the girls about Election Day and gave them a better understanding of political terms, as well as those running for election in our community, state and country. With her help, the girls were able to complete the requirements for their Junior badge, “Inside Government.” Pictured are, from left: Alexis Getchell, Alexus LaFerriere, Bethany Baker, Desmond, Delaney Alward, Madelyn Buzza, Amanda Winslow and Katelyn Amero. Absent when the photo was taken were troop members Rebecca Rider and Sydney Robichaud. Thank you Mrs. Desmond for your years of service to our communities and for sharing your knowledge with our troop.

Mapleton Junior Girl Scout Troop 1133 held its annual rededication ceremony Nov. 8 with numerous family and friends present. This ceremony marked the fifth one of its kind for the troop. Six of the nine troop members were present to rededicate themselves to another year of Girl Scouting.

Following their introductions, the girls led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, and then recited the Girl Scout Promise. The girls then took part in a brief candle ceremony, presenting a short reading describing the different parts of the Girl Scout Law. Prior to the awards portion of the ceremony, the girls sang, “Make New Friends.”

The girls all received awards that they earned so far this Scouting year. They each received a spring registration patch and a rededication patch. Several of the girls received a historic home patch for visiting the Vera Estey House, “Lend a Hand” patch for assisting with the “Stop Hunger Now” campaign, a science patch for attending a Science and Chemistry event, and the Junior “Inside Government” badge.

The girls were also recognized for the incentive prizes they earned during the magazine and nut sale this fall. To date, four of the troop members have completed the first five of 10 steps to earn a free week at Girl Scout Camp next summer. Their next challenge will be to sell 300 boxes of cookies during the sale this January. The girls and their families enjoyed a video of some troop field trips and activities put together by Scott and Laurie Amero. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the girls sang one of their favorite songs, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.”

Troop members include Delaney Alward, Katelyn Amero, Bethany Baker, Madelyn Buzza, Alexis Getchell, Alexus LaFerriere, Rebecca Rider, Sydney Robichaud and Amanda Winslow. The troop is led by Jennifer Buzza, Nancy Winslow and Laurie Amero.
