It was a close race to represent Caribou in the Maine House of Representatives with only 45 votes between the winner and the first runner up.
Caribou’s new District Four Representative-elect Carol McElwee (R) won the election with 1,362 votes; Mark Goughan (I) came in a close second with 1,317 votes, and David Martin (D) was a respectable third place with 973 votes.
The voting results for Maine Senate District 35 were also pretty close, with incumbent Troy Jackson (D) of Allagash securing 8,542 votes; Peter Edgecomb (R) of Caribou wasn’t that far behind with 7,991 votes.
The incumbent also won in House District Three, where Bernard Ayotte (R) of Caswell secured 2,024 votes; Gail Maynard (D) of Woodland picked up just about 40 percent of the vote with 1,327 votes.
Four new representatives were also elected in Caribou, all running unopposed.
Caribou’s two new city councilors are David Genthner Sr. with 2,241 votes and current-councilor Philip McDonough II with 2,709 votes.
The new member of the RSU 39 School Board is Kent Forbes, with 3,057 votes, and Betty Hatch was voted onto the Jefferson Cary Memorial Hospital Board with 3,350 votes.
