Photo by Karen DonatoThanks to Houlton’s WHOU radio station, Ruth Peabody, 101 years young was able to hear the play-by-play of the Houlton High School championship soccer game held in Scarborough on Nov. 3. Peabody’s great-grandson, Jimmy Fizpatrick, a senior, scored the first goal in the 2-0 game, winning the state title over Hall-Dale High School. Commentators, Tim Tweedie and Rob Moran noted that Peabody, a patient at Houlton Regional Hospital was listening to the game back in Houlton. It was an exciting occasion for her and quite a surprise to hear her granddaughter Lauren with husband Chris Fitzpatrick being interviewed during half-time and then to hear her own name being broadcast over the air-waves. She said, “Can you just imagine that.”
