Outstanding soccer players recognized

The Northern Maine Board of Approved Soccer Officials recently announced this year’s “Butch” Shaw Award winners. The award, named in honor of long-time official Clyde “Butch” Shaw, is handed out annually to the most outstanding soccer players in Aroostook County.

This year’s recipients are, for Class B girls, Olivia Sleeper of Caribou and Chandler Guerrette of Presque Isle; Class B boys, Dean Walker of Caribou and Jonah Stephenson of Presque Isle; Class C girls, Alexis Desjardins of Fort Kent; Class C boys, Jimmy Fitzpatrick of Houlton and Ian Lee of Madawaska; Class D girls, Carla Halvorson of Easton, Parise Rossignol of Van Buren and MacKenzie Worcester of Washburn; and Class D boys, Nick Bragg of Washburn and Nate Oakes of Wisdom.

Caribou’s Dean Walker received plenty of post-season recognition for the season he turned in. The senior standout soccer player made All-Aroostook, was an Eastern Maine all-star and was the recipient of the Butch Shaw Award as the outstanding player in Aroostook County.

Washburn’s Carmen Bragg pulled in several post-season awards. In soccer, she was All-Aroostook and was an Eastern Maine all-star. She also made All-Aroostook in cross country running.
