NEW SWEDEN — In an effort to teach students about the importance of military service, the New Sweden School hosted an assembly on Nov. 8 in honor of Veterans Day.
Woodland students were invited to the gathering that featured musical performances from Woodland and New Sweden students and a skit performed by Stockholm’s Perkins-Plourde American Legion Post No. 136 Ladies Auxiliary demonstrating the importance of freedom. Legionnaires from the post were also in attendance.
“We wanted to put a face with those heroes we’re always telling you about,” New Sweden Principal Laurie Spooner told the group.
Perkins-Plourde Post Commander Herman Fisher commented, “It’s nice to be here to see our future, and it certainly looks like a good future.”
The assembly also showcased veteran-themed essays written by three New Sweden middle school students, which will be published on the Bright Futures blog at brightfutures4me.wordpress.com.
