The art of housework — The course in domestic science in the Aroostook Normal School includes elementary cooking and sewing with their allied branches. It aims to inspire in girls an interest and love for the work in the home, to teach them that “housework” is not a drudgery but an art, a knowledge of which means better happier homes and healthier people.
Mare for sale — Advertisement reads: Black mare, 6 year-old, sound and kind, a lady can drive her anywhere. Can reach 10 miles in an hour. A very stylish mare. Also a nice yearling colt for sale. – R. H. Stratton, Washburn, Maine.

Masons at 50 years —The Caribou Masonic Lodge No. 170 held a meeting Friday evening last, the 50th anniversary of the lodge. J. C. Briggs was speaker of the evening. Guests were present from Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield and other surrounding towns. G. L. Perkins also gave a few readings.
County brands — In this week’s newspaper — special full-page advertisements featuring “The New Trade-Marked State of Maine Potatoes” as well as package designs of 44 different area growers. Just a few include: Circle C Brand, C. F. Clark & Son of Washburn; Aroostook Maid Potatoes, MacDougal Bros. of Caribou; Big Choice Brand, E. J. Callahan & Co., Fort Fairfield; Buck Brand Potatoes, Hovey & Co. of Mars Hill; and Top Tater Potatoes, Maine Potato Growers Inc. of Presque Isle.
50 Years Ago-Nov. 15, 1962
Kiwanis Sports-A-Rama — Those on hand at the armory Saturday evening were treated to an extremely exciting start of the local basketball season as the Fort Kenters topped the highly-touted Ricker College Bulldogs 62-58. Bad weather and the inability of the much-publicized Loring Air Force Bombers cut down the size of the crowd. The Bombers were held on base due to the Cuban situation and SAC alert.
Brownie news — The Buttercup Brownie Troop met with leaders Mrs. Tony Wakem and Mrs. Ralph Hitchings at the K of C Hall. Judy Beaulieu conducted the business meeting and the girls rehearsed for their investiture.

Breakfast for 750 — Members of Sportsman’s Inc. served over 750 people at the 30th annual Hunter’s Breakfast held on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, at their lodge in Axel Siding. Claiming prizes awarded annually by the group were: Merrill Hersey, rifle; Larry Austin, shotgun; Roland Anderson, fly rod; and George O’Bar III, a sleeping bag.
Grove-Markwood recital — Susan Grove-Markwood will present an organ recital at the Congregational Church (UCC) of Presque Isle. She is presently the director of music for Hammond Street Congregational Church (UCC) in Bangor and works as an administrative assistant in the Development Office of the Bangor Theological Seminary
