Many of us love our cars; many would like to update their model; many wish to have a luxury model — of course without the payment or price tag. And it has been said, “If you need to ask, ‘how much?’ you likely cannot afford it.”
Our book this week is a small text which speaks volumes of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley machines. Included are numerous pictures, history of their creators and details of construction. One item: 13 coats of paint, each hand-rubbed, with the fourteenth coat one and a half times the thickness of most cars’ paint layer.
“The Rolls-Royce Story” by Reg E. Abbiss has “Did You Know?” items scattered throughout with delicious tidbits mechanics might drool over: some bolts threaded clockwise, others counterclockwise so they hold firmly in whatever the direction the car is moving.
This book is a part of the history section in Cary Library which holds surprises whatever the subject.
