Scouting for Food collection
set for Saturday in PI
PRESQUE ISLE — Last Saturday, local Cub and Boy Scouts of the Katahdin Area Council distributed bags in the Star City as part of the annual Scouting for Food initiative. Residents are encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food items to help needy families in the community.
Scouts will collect the donated food this Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Please place the donated food items in a bag or box and leave it outside your front door for collection. Please write “BSA Food Drive” on the box or bag.
Perishable, frozen or food in glass containers will not be accepted along with homemade or “junk food” items. Suggested canned items for donation include soup, baby formula, beef stew, vegetables, chili, potatoes, meat and fish, and peanut butter. Boxed items may include pastas, 1 or 2-pound packages of sugar or flour, cereals, pasta mixes, juice boxes, Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper and Chicken Helper.
The Scouts of the Katahdin Area Council thank you for your support and donation to this annual nationwide food drive.
All food collected will be taken to GIFT-Interfaith Food Pantry for distribution to families in need. GIFT is a non-profit partnership working to meet hunger needs in Presque Isle, Mapleton and Chapman.
Anyone who did not receive a bag can still participate in the food drive by placing marked bags or boxes on their doorstep.
