Junior Knights 8-0

The Houlton junior Knights rolled over the Caribou Huskies Saturday at Community Park, 59-28, to keep a perfect record intact at 8-0.
According to coach Bill Alderson, there was more action in the game than the score would indicate, as the Huskies gave the Knights a run for their money in the first half of hard-hitting football.
The day was sunny and warm and a good crowd enjoyed two junior high teams that play for keeps, but good sportsmanship prevailed.
The Knights had too much firepower being able to move the ball big chunks through the air on the passing attack of quarterback Jared Fox and receivers Nick Botting and Jacob Fox, along with on the ground with running backs Tyler Smith, Sam Geary and Jed Grant. They were able to score behind a big line of Nate Mooers, Damon Reynolds and Brendon “Tank” Graham, who are all seventh-graders.
Quarterback position was backed up by Dalton Wilde, next year’s quarterback-to-be, added coach Alderson.
“A player from Caribou was taken to Houlton [Regional] Hospital as a precaution and thankfully released sore, but well,” said Alderson.
Alderson welcomed new assistant coach Brian Tuttle to the team. Tuttle was a former standout with the Houlton Senior Knights in prior seasons.
“Again, I was pleased with our ability to play everyone on our 25-man roster,” Alderson said. “Our two quarterbacks call their own game, leaving me time to get everyone in the game.”
The junior Knights travel to Washington Academy on Saturday, Nov. 3 for a 1 p.m. game. If rain from Hurricane Sandy ruins their field, they will come to Houlton for an 11 a.m. contest at Community Park before the Houlton High School Shires game at 1 p.m.
