Junior Knights run record to 6-0

After a bye week forced on them when Millinocket forfeited the week before to Houlton’s Junior High football team, the Junior Knights returned to action last Saturday and defeated the Madawaska Mustangs 32-14 at Bob Ruth Field.
With the win, the Knights remain undefeated at 6-0.
Despite a solid first quarter during which the Knights scored twice, the cold ball and damp field conditions led to five Houlton fumbles recovered by the opposition.  Nick Botting, Jared Fox, Tyler Smith and Sam Geary were the offensive stars for Houlton, while Tim Glatter and Nate Mooers made notable contributions on defense.
Madawaska played an inspired game and looked much better than they did in the opening game of the year when they were trounced 78-13 by the Knights.
“We are going to have to go back to the basics a bit this week,” said Assistant Coach Steve Martin.  The kids may have been looking past Madawaska, and it showed.  We’ve got to take better care of the football.”
The Knights have Caribou at home at Bob Ruth Field on Oct. 27, before closing out their season on their road down in East Machias against Washington Academy on Nov. 4.
