The Washburn Rotary Club will be hosting their annual Hunters’ Breakfast at the Trailrunners’ Club in Washburn on Saturday, Oct. 28. Tickets will be $6 per person.

One dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the Hospice of Aroostook House of Comfort Project. Representatives for the House of Comfort Project will be present at the breakfast to give information on this project to anyone that is interested, so come down, enjoy some good food and help support this worthy cause.      Tanner Strout, a 14-year-old high school freshman, achieved his goal and got his moose, in Zone 3 at Connor Township only a short time after the season began on Monday, Sept. 24. Tanner “scouted” the area over the weekend and even though he saw no moose, he decided to return on Monday. At 6:10 a.m., he hit the jackpot, downing a 732-pound buck. Along with help from family and friends, Tanner cleaned the moose in the field and returned to his home in Charleston to finishing cutting up the meat. Here, Tanner is pictured in the parking lot of the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle, where he and his family stopped on their way home.

Make a Difference Day

Oct. 27 is Make a Difference Day. The Washburn quilting group Stitchin’ an’ a Givin’ will be making quilts on Oct. 26 to commemorate this day at the Trail Runners’ Clubhouse in Washburn. The group will be making quilts for Hospice of Aroostook.

They will be having a potluck lunch along with items for coffee breaks. Anyone is welcome to come and help out; if you don’t sew you can help with cutting, pressing or tacking fabric. They will have fabric available for anyone who does not have their own, but quilts made from the fabric stash must be donated to Hospice. Please bring your own tools such as scissors, tacking needles or sewing machine.

The Stitchin’ an’ a Givin’ group will be at the Trail Runners’ Clubhouse Friday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Even if you don’t sew or quilt, you are welcome to stop by and say hello and see the work that will be going to Hospice of Aroostook.
