With just a couple weeks remaining before the playoffs begin, the Heal Point standings in girls and boys soccer are gaining significance.

In Eastern Maine Class B, the Presque Isle girls picked up a huge victory over Ellsworth Friday and now find themselves in second place in the rankings — just 4.3 points behind No. 1 Camden Hills and 3.4 in front of third-place Hermon, which handed the Wildcats their lone loss of the season.
PI was the beneficiary of Hermon’s 3-2 loss to Ellsworth early last week, which gave the Hawks their first defeat.
In Presque Isle’s home win over the Eagles, Chandler Guerrette recorded the natural hat trick with three first-half goals and Emma Bartlett knocked in a penalty kick as the ’Cats prevailed, 4-2.
Meredith Stewart saved 12 shots on 16 attempts in goal for PI, which is 8-1 entering today’s match at Washington Academy.
PI also knocked off Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor last Wednesday, 5-0, behind three goals from Megan Ireland. Guerrette had a goal and three assists and Katelyn McPherson added another goal for the winners.
In EM Class B boys rankings, Presque Isle is ranked fifth with its 4-2-3 record.
The Wildcats were blanked by Ellsworth at home Saturday, 2-0, and earlier in the week managed a 2-2 tie against MDI on the road.
Ansu Morrow’s goal with four minutes to play tied the game against the Trojans. Jonah Stephenson had PI’s other goal and Cody Lyford saved eight of 14 shots in goal.
In girls’ Class D standings, Washburn leads the way with its 9-1-1 record. Easton is second at 8-2-1 and Fort Fairfield is ranked third at 7-2-2.
The Beavers haven’t played since Sept. 18 and will resume their schedule Oct. 11 with a home match against Van Buren.
Easton has also been idle for awhile, with its last game held Sept. 10. The team next plays next Tuesday, Oct. 9 at home against East Grand.

Fort Fairfield defeated Limestone-MSSM last Tuesday, 2-0, behind Janae Libby’s two goals. The Tigers will battle Central Aroostook next Tuesday in their next match.
Ashland, which fell at Fort Kent Friday, is currently fifth at 6-4 and CA is right behind and ranked sixth at 6-4-1.
In Class D boys, Ashland holds on to the No. 3 ranking with its 7-2-1 mark. The Hornets dropped a 2-0 decision at home to Fort Kent Friday.
In sixth place is Washburn at 5-4-2. The Beavers have been off since Sept. 18 and will next be in action Oct. 11 at home against Van Buren.
Central Aroostook has a 3-6-2 record, but is still in eighth place in the division. The Panthers are home Thursday against Southern Aroostook.
Easton, which has last played Sept. 10 and has its next contest Tuesday, Oct. 9 against East Grand, and is in ninth position at 6-5.
Fort Fairfield tied Limestone-MSSM last Tuesday, 1-1, and is in 16th place at 2-8-1.
