Senior golfers present final season awards

    MARS HILL — The Upper St. John Valley Senior Men’s Golf Association presented its final awards following the Sept. 19 tournament at Mars Hill Country Club.
    Taking first place for the President’s Trophy, which averages a golfers four best gross scores during the summer tournaments, was Gary Greene of Covered Bridge with a 75.25. Taking second was Jerry York of Houlton Community Golf Club with a 76.5.
    The winner of the Governor’s Trophy, for the low average of the four best net scores, was Ray Mersereau of Mars Hill CC with a 68. Stuart Kelley of Va Jo Wa in Island Falls was the runner-up with a 69.
    Claiming the Bud Survant trophy for Super Seniors’ average of three best gross scores was Elmer Pelletier of Fort Kent with a 84.66. Philip Pelletier of Fort Kent was second with an 85.33.
    Ninety golfers participated in the tourney that day. The top three gross and net scores in the six divisions of play were as follows:
    A Division gross: first, York, 74; second, Neil Girdwood, Covered Bridge, 75; and third, Dave Plourde, Edmunston, 76. Net: first, Gill Picard, Grand Falls, 66; second, Michael Gagnon, Caribou, 69; and third, Harry Orser, Mars Hill, 70.
    B Division gross: first, Mersereau, 76; second, Wilson Patterson, Covered Bridge, 80; and third, Bruce Fitzpatrick, Caribou, 83. Net: first, Greg Campbell, Woodstock, 66; second, Keith Larlee, Edmunston, 70; and third, Normand Michaud, Edmunston, 70.        
    C Division gross: first, Terry Duffy, Va Jo Wa, 84; second, Doug Lawrence, Covered Bridge, 88; and third, Lou Lorenzo, Caribou, 89. Net: first, Willard Cyr, Edmunston, 70; second, George Watson, Presque Isle, 73; and third, Harnish Duncan, Covered Bridge, 75.
    D Division gross: first, Conrad Walton, Caribou, 87; second, James Saucier, Limestone, 94; and third, Jeff Everett, Caribou, 96. Net: first, Elwood Doody, Limestone, 69; second, Al Condon, Presque Isle, 78; and third, Bob Lewandowski, Presque Isle, 79.
    E Division gross: first, Mike Duffly, Woodstock, 88; second, Dean Larrabee, Mars Hill, 91; and third, Rex Clark, Woodstock, 92. Net: first, Steve Stiles, Mars Hill, 69; second, Wallace Polchies, Covered Bridge, 70; third, David Ricker, Aroostook Valley, 72.
     F Division gross: first, George Walsh, Grand Falls, 93; second, Dana Crory, Mars Hill, 99; and third, Stephen Walker, Va Jo Wa, 108. MH 99. Net: first, Len Riley, Covered Bridge, 69; second, Berend Tepper, Grand Falls, 73; and third, Greg Freeman, Portage, 78.
