The Greater Houlton Christian Academy varsity cross-country runners competed in the Festival of Champions in Belfast on Saturday.
Senior Mike Tate of John Hughes Gillis Regional High School in Nova Scotia set a new course record finishing first with a time of 15:26.64. On the girl’s side, Bethanie Brown a senior at Waterville High School nearly broke the record — 17:48.00 set by Cassie Hintz of Old Town in 2004 — coming across the line in a time of 17:56.69.
In the boy’s division locally, Nick Lunn, a senior at Hodgdon, finished the course in a time of 18:17.71 for a 122nd finish out of 779 runners.
For GHCA, Alex Angotti came in 651 in a time of 22:58.89, followed by Josh Winslow, 748, with a time of 25:29.81.
On the girls’ side, more than 600 runners competed, with GHCA senior Lauren Robertson coming in 424 with a time of 25:31.72, followed by senior teammates Sara Hemingway, 476, 26:25.41 and Olivia Lord, 545, 28:24.85. GHCA sophomore Rachel Potter finished toward the end with a time of 39:31.34.
GHCA will be hosting a meet with Limestone/MSSM, Fort Kent, Caribou and Presque Isle at Community Park in Houlton on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
The cross-country County Championship is set for Oct. 10 in Limestone at 3:30 p.m.
