The Shiretown Scribes writing group was established in 2009 with the full support of the Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project. President Bob Cowperthwaite states the Houlton area has many folks of various ages who have the goal of becoming mobilized to further develop their artistic talents. After many meetings, workshops and the 2011 publication of the “Anthology of Short Stories and Poems,” the group has agreed, “it’s time to share their written works with an afternoon of reading their poetry and prose.”
To recognize and support the participants, you are invited to a free event where several local writers will read their works. The event will be held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 21, 2 p.m., at the Unitarian Church located at 61 Military St. in Houlton. The Cup Café will be open for the purchase of refreshments and the first publication will be available for purchase. Donations to support SACAP’s goal of fostering the art community will be greatly appreciated. We hope you will find this environment culturally exciting.
