Like so many people that have personal connections with family members, friends and loved ones affected by breast cancer, members of the girls varsity soccer team at Limestone Community School wanted to make a difference. They decided to help raise funds for the Jefferson Cary Foundation’s Capital Campaign project for the new Women’s Imaging Center at Cary Medical Center.

The Lady Eagles raised $500 from a bean supper held at a recent bluegrass festival in Fort Fairfield to donate to the project and are challenging other local area sports teams to help with the cause as well.
The new center will feature state-of-the-art digital mammography and stereotactic biopsy equipment. With the focus on patient comfort, convenience and privacy, the new center will be staffed by specially trained mammography technologists who will engage patients in a “navigation process,” helping them through their procedures, whether a routine screening mammography or a diagnostic exam, making sure the patient has the best possible experience with support from her medical team.
“We are so excited about the new Women’s Imaging Center and the services that we’ll be able to provide our patients now right here at home,” said Dr. Shawn Laferriere, chief of radiology at Cary. “Our sincere thank you goes to all of the Limestone girls soccer team for their thoughtfulness and generosity to help us reach our goal.”
