Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Aug. 28, at the Aroostook Health Center. Chappy Clark attended and spoke of the Junior Golf program at the Mars Hill Country Club. There were five girls and 12 boys that took part this summer in this program. He thanked the club for donating to this program.

The special speaker was Chris Nicholas. Chris spoke of Living Waters Bible Camp in Danforth and the annual Mountain View Challenge that is held each year to help pay off the mortgage on the second camping site they own. While the challenge typically involves running and swimming, Chris asked to start a bicycle element to the challenge.

He rode alone last year and covered over 100 miles from Mars Hill to Living Waters, then continuing on to Benedicta after lunch. He has found four other hearty souls that will be riding with him this year.

They will begin their journey at the Caribou/Limestone town line at 6 a.m. and ride down Route 1A to Mars Hill, where they will enjoy a breakfast at the United Baptist Church around 9 a.m. When they begin again, there will be a number of younger riders that will join them for the trip down the track to Bridgewater. This gives the younger riders a chance to join in the challenge, with a shorter distance to go riding on the safety of the track.

The five brave men will then continue on down the old track to Houlton and then on down Route 1 to Living Waters for the end of their day’s ride.

To sponsor one of the riders or to make a donation to Living Waters, call Chris Nicholas at 227-2894.
