Gorneault and Beckum win 8K

P.J. Gorneault of Caribou leads a large pack of runners competing in Monday’s Caribou Labor Day Road Race. Gorneault ended up with the fastest time on the eight-kilometer course, finishing in 25 minutes and 55 seconds. A total of 52 runners participated in the annual race.

CARIBOU — The annual Caribou Labor Day 8K Road Race took place Monday, with 54 participating.

Caribou’s P.J. Gorneault and Marie Beckum claimed the individual titles. Gorneault fashioned a winning time of 25 minutes and 55 seconds, while Beckum was the women’s champion and took 15th place overall in 34:08.

There were two walkers participating. Stephanie Plourde and Kim Ezzy, both of Caribou, crossed the line in identical times of 43:51.

Making up the rest of the top-10 were Evan Graves (28:01), Shawn Berry (28:40), Paul Johnson (29:51), Chris Rines (30:15), Jeff Ashby (30:28), Bradley Burlock (31:24), Will Sweetser (31:36), Trevor Levesque (31:59) and Nick Lunn (32:00).

In the female division, Kimberley Wright (35:40), Angela Ewings (36:10), Emily Wright (41:04) and Connie McLellan (46:01) followed Beckum.

Age division winners were Lukas Legasse,  14 and under male; Levesque, 15-18 male; Emily Wright, 19-29 female; Rines, 19-29 male; Mariana Mandible, 30-39 female; Graves, 30-39 male; Ewings, 40-49 female; Ashby, 40-49 male; Kimberley Wright, 50-59 female; McLelllan, 60-69 female; Larry Tonzi, 60-69 male; and Art Thompson, 70 and over male.

Fort Fairfield’s Jeff Ashby clocked Monday’s Caribou Labor Day Road Race course in 30:28, good for sixth place overall on the eight-kilometer course and first in his age group.
