Governor’s offers variety, savings
PRESQUE ISLE — It’s not your cookie cutter restaurant, but you certainly can order a cookie, cake or piece of pie. Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery in Presque Isle is, in a word, “unique” to the area.
Owners Tony and Sherry Sullivan opened up the restaurant in a snowstorm 15-1/2 years ago, and it’s been a breakfast, lunch and dinnertime fixture for many individuals and families ever since.
“We rely heavily on repeat customers, so giving exceptional service on every single visit is very important,” said Sherry Sullivan. “Of course, everyone in the region knows that a good Nor’easter can certainly put a damper on business, but rest assured if you are looking for a place to eat in a snowstorm, Governor’s will always be open.”
Variety and savings are two cornerstones of the business. All of the products are made on site, including all the baked goods.
“We have a wonderful baker that makes all of our bread, burger and hot dog rolls, dinner rolls, pies, cakes and pastries,” gushed Sullivan.
Governor’s has a senior citizen menu with slightly smaller portions with a smaller price tag. Every Thursday is Family Night with kids’ meals for 99 cents. Plus you can sign up for the “Go Gov Club” that allows you to accumulate points for every dollar spent to get gift certificates. There are other offers and specials including a birthday discount and a deal of the month.
On a rotating basis every six to eight weeks, Governor’s offers a few special dishes and desserts to its customers that could later be added to the menu, depending on their popularity.
Governor’s has a banquet room for up to 35 people and if you don’t want to eat in they offer a full catering service.
“We like to think that we make customer service priority one,” she said. We also believe word of mouth is very important to our business, so making sure that our customers have a positive visit will ensure positive word of mouth.”
The restaurant earned some bragging rights this summer when Tony’s Southwestern barbecued chai turkey burger was voted the best burger in town at Maine Potato Grower’s second annual Tailgate Party and Burger Contest.
Governor’s Restaurant and Bakery is open Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The phone number is 769-2274.
