Connecting with customers
important to McGlinn’s
PRESQUE ISLE — McGlinn’s Plumbing and Heating is nearing the 30-year mark in the business, and owner Steve McGlinn is grateful for the patronage he has received from his customers throughout Aroostook County.
“You go out and do the work, but it is following up on call-backs that is the biggest thing in our business,” McGlinn said. “We make sure our customers are 100 percent satisfied with the project. If there is a problem, they call us and we don’t charge for the call-back.
“You have to make sure the customer is satisfied and give them a good product, so we go the extra mile to make sure they are happy.”
McGlinn got his start as a counter person with Northern Pipe and Supply in Presque Isle in the 1970s when they were in business. He eventually learned the trade and earned his master’s license while with a couple other local companies before beginning on his own in July of 1983.
“I started alone in a pickup truck and have three trucks on the road now,” said McGlinn’s, whose office has remained at his home on 29 Pleasant Street the entire time.
McGlinn has two other full-time employees who are both licensed master plumbers in Steve Brazier and Lucas Jarrett.
“When the men are on the job, they try to connect with the customer,” McGlinn said. “The guys are polite and I’m always getting good feedback from the customers on that.”
The business provides complete residential plumbing and heating as well as light to medium commercial work involving service and construction.
Among the new products McGlinn is excited about are mini splits air conditioning units and heat pumps, which he said should translate into big savings during the heating season and big comfort during warmer weather.
