Meeting people and listening to their stories is what Randy Lincoln enjoys most.
“I’m meeting new people constantly,” he said. “Everybody has different things going on in their lives and it’s always very interesting discussing that with them.”
Lincoln served in the United States Air Force for four years after high school. He worked construction in Texas for a year before returning home to run the family potato and dairy farm.
“I ran the farm for seven years,” said Lincoln. “I came back for just the summer to help and planned to head west after fall, but my dad took sick and I had to run the farm. I stepped away from the farm because I would have to expand ‘big time’ and I felt that the future looked bleak in the industry.”
Lincoln received a letter in the mail that a Farm Family agent was retiring and thought insurance was something that “I could enjoy doing,” he said. “I applied and here I am 27 years later.”
In 1986, Lincoln left the family farm and took over the Farm Family insurance.
“I still operate a beef farm as a hobby,” Lincoln said.
Farm Family was located on lower North Street and five years later, Lincoln moved the business to the corner of North Road and Smyrna Street and changed the name to the Randy Lincoln Agency.
“We expanded to sell several carriers and changed our name,” he said.
Through the years, insurance agencies have gone through transitions and the Randy Lincoln Agency is no different.
“The business is constantly going through transitions,” Lincoln said. “Computers had just become of age when I started. There were no fax machines or scanners.”With Internet companies lobbying for clients, Lincoln believes people like one-on-one contact.
“Internet companies have taken some business, but we get a lot of that business back when people realize how nice it is to sit down and talk to a live person,” he said.
The Randy Lincoln Agency offers clients a full portfolio of financial products from auto to home, business, life and disability. The agency also offers annuities for retirement planning. Working alongside Lincoln are Gwen Savoy, Jessica Wotton and Inez Arledge.
Savoy has been with Lincoln for 14 years and is working part-time. She helps fill in on vacations and days when the other ladies are at training. Wotton has been employed for nine years and Arledge for eight years.
