We’ll host a red/white/blue scramble during Labor Day weekend. This is a really fun tournament, where each team will play six drives of their choice from each of the three different tee boxes. Some interesting strategy certainly enters the picture when selecting which tee box to use for each hole. The entry is only $10 per player with four-person teams. There will be gross and net prizes; plus, prizes for the youngest total age; oldest total age; and prizes for female only teams (mixed teams can play, also). Since this is over the three-day Labor Day weekend, you may play on any day at any time and you may play on multiple teams, if you wish! Signing up is suggested, but you may just show up and play. Sign, date, and turn in your cards at the pro shop. Winners will be announced on Monday evening after all play is completed.
The Men’s Twilight League is down to the final match with the team of Bill Dwyer/Warren Walker playing Reid Stanley/Ken Delano. Some very close matches were played leading to the finals. The team of Pete Lawlor and Tom Ryan, who finished the regular matches undefeated, beat Joe McAuliffe/S.P. Walker before losing in the closest match, where a tie between them and the Dwyer/Walker team was broken by a sudden death extra hole. Dwyer/Walker had advanced with a win over Bill Hollis/Francis Cyr, where one bad hole did them in. Reid Stanley/Ken Delano advanced to the finals by beating the team of Greg Douglas/Bill Boulier, and then nipping Greg Gayne/Peter Blood by one stroke, as they came from behind by gaining three strokes on the last two holes. Greg and Peter had a one-stroke victory over Brent Kelly/Tom Daggett to reach the quarter finals.
In Sunday afternoon couples golf, 10 couples played a best ball scramble on the back nine. At least one drive had to be used from everyone. Finishing in first place was the team of Stuart and Becky Kelley/Ralph and Valerie Powers, who shot a very nice 34. Second place was the team of Jenness and Goldie Gushee/Ola and Dianna Tucker with a 37. In third was the team of Francis and Sally Cyr/Greg Gayne and Sandy Newman, who had a 39. Couples (and singles) meet each Sunday at 3 p.m., please come join us.
Nearly 100 golfers with the Upper St John Valley Seniors played at VaJoWa on Aug. 22. Weather was perfect and the play was excellent.
Great weather, terrific course conditions, and discount fees make this a perfect time to play VaJoWa. The pro shop has a half price sale on many items.
