TAMC welcomes Boucher
PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Medical Center recently welcomed highly regarded nurse, educator and professional Daryl Boucher as director of emergency services. Boucher, of Presque Isle, has an impressive career in nursing education and practice which spans over 20 years.
“I have known Daryl for many years. During that time, he has been a tireless advocate for the emergency medical services system in Aroostook County,” said Jim McKenney, TAMC vice president of diagnostic & support services. “He is professional and efficient in his approach to work and is very much respected by all of his colleagues. My experience has shown that once you ask something of Daryl, there will never be a need for a reminder.”
Daryl Boucher comes to TAMC from Northern Maine Community College where he had been a nursing faculty member since 1998. In 2001, he was named coordinator of the new emergency medical services program. Under Boucher’s leadership, the EMS program continued to expand to meet emerging needs in the region. Recently, he showed his leadership by bringing a new community paramedicine program to NMCC. It is the first of its kind in Maine, and one of only eight programs in the nation.
Licensed as a paramedic and registered nurse, he has worked for Ambulance Service, Inc. in Fort Kent and Crown Ambulance in Presque Isle. Boucher also is certified as a critical care transport professional.
He earned a certificate in emergency medical services from NMCC in 1992, a BSN from the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 1992, and a master’s degree from St. Joseph’s College in 2001. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Capella University.
Boucher is active in the health care community. He is a member of the Maine EMS Education Committee and the National Association of EMTs Exam Committee. He serves as a board member for the Aroostook County Public Health District Coordinating Council, and is also a medical volunteer for the Maine Winter Sports Center.
Boucher has seen many improvements in health care over his career. His goal now is to see further improvements as head of emergency services.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to lead emergency services at TAMC during a time of great change in the health care industry. My goal is to continue to work to improve customer service,” said Boucher. “I have been tasked with identifying efficiencies and flow within the emergency department.”
Boucher says he is looking forward to this new opportunity.
“This new director position at TAMC will allow me to work in a large system, with a great team and super leadership,” he said.
Boucher resides in Presque Isle with his wife, Stacy, and two daughters, Hilary and Hana.
