Mars Hill Rotary members get Loring update

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Aug. 7, at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Cuppy Johndro of the Loring Military Heritage Center. The museum has many sections showing items from the snow crew, the aircraft maintenance crew, the firefighters, the police and more.
She spoke about the upcoming “Loring Reunites 2012” to take place on Aug. 24, 25 and 26. Among other happenings, there will be a Dinner/Dance on Saturday night at a cost of $25 per person.

The ACI Class of 1962

THE ACI CLASS OF 1962 held their 50th reunion on Saturday, July 25, at Central Aroostook High School. Winner and still champion

Beau Bradstreet of Bridgewater matched his 2011 record of eight cans of Moxie at the annual “Chugging Challenge” at the Moxie Festival July 14 in Lisbon Falls. The contest decides who can drink the most cans of Moxie, Maine’s official soft drink, in two minutes. Here Bradstreet carefully pokes a hole in a can of Moxie before shotgunning it.
At the Summerfest

PUDDLE FUN — In Mars Hill on Friday, Aug. 3, young Connor Cushman, at left, was thrilled with the puddles left after the rain came through just as the Summerfest activities began. It soon cleared off and a great time was had by all.

Upcoming events for the week of Aug. 15-21 include: Wednesday will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Moving to Music at 9:30 and an outing to Houlton Farms Dairy at 1 p.m. Thursday has the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and an outing to Houlton Farms Dairy at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, will feature Moving to Music at 9:30 a.m. and a Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will feature Karaoke with the Deschesnes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday will have the Full Gospel Assembly at 3 p.m. Monday will feature Coffee Chat at 9:30 a.m., Communion with Pastor Jewell at 1:30 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and Card Games at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. Yard/Bake Sale
The Bridgewater Historical Association will be holding a Yard and Bake Sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 17-18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come on in and see what’s for sale.
Refreshments will be available. Tables are also available for rent at $10 each.
Music at the Hall
Don’t forget there is live music by Outside In on Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. They perform a wide variety of music styles. Bring your dancing shoes and show us your moves on our wood dance floor. There is no cover charge, however, donations are greatly appreciated. The musicians are all volunteers who donate their time and talents for you to enjoy and making it possible for all proceeds to go directly to the BHA. They too are greatly appreciated. Refreshments are available on music nights.
We do have something special in the works for next month so keep your eyes peeled for updates. Events are posted in the Houlton Pioneer Times, The Star-Herald and on the Bridgewater Historical Association’s Facebook page. Start getting your costumes together as we will be holding our Halloween Dance again this year.
Community Cupboard
The food pantry serves the communities of Westfield, Mars Hill, Blaine, Robinson, E-Plantation and Bridgewater.
The cupboard is open the second Tuesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. and the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community. If you have questions, call Cathy Cropley at 429-8043.
