ISLAND FALLS — The Island Falls Lakes Association is holding a number of seminars and workshops in the coming weeks. The following is a list of topics to be covered.
Friday-Saturday, July 13-14 — Invasive Plant Patrol Workshop and Survey on Pleasant Lake: Friday will begin at 1 p.m. at Birch Point starting with the first level of instruction in identifying invasive aquatic plants and continue at 8:30 a.m. on July 14 leading to certification as an Invasive Plant Patroller for the Maine Volunteer Lakes Management Program (VLMP) with a sample survey on Pleasant Lake.
Birch Point will function as the classroom center for both days. This is a perfect opportunity to get involved in this program to protect our lakes from invasive plants. The information you will gain from these classes will be applicable to all lakes in Maine and elsewhere. Lunch will be available at Birch Point on both days and soft drinks and bottled water will be supplied by the Island Falls Lakes Association. Please make your reservations for these classes by contacting Roberta Hill at 783-7733 or vlmp@mainevlmp.org, or call Birch Point Lodge at 207-463-2515 or Norm Harte at 207-463-3035. Canoes and kayaks needed! Come either day or, preferably, both days.
Saturday, July 21 – Annual Meeting: The annual meeting will be held at the Big Valley Sno Club followed by the Annual Lobster/Steak Membership Appreciation Supper. A BYOB social hour will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the annual meeting at 5 pm, and dinner at 5:30 p.m. The menu is lobster or steak ($15 adults, $10 children 12 and under) with potato, vegetable, salad, rolls, dessert, and beverage. Bring your own pickers and crackers.
Board members are asked to bring a dessert to share. Please call Birch Point (463-2515) before Saturday, July 14, to place your order for either lobster or steak. Volunteers are needed to set up, cook, serve, and clean up! Attracting new members and advertising our goals is foremost on the agenda. Bring your concerns to the meeting! Please ask your camp neighbors and friends to attend and bring a guest!
