An afternoon accident Sunday on Route 161 claimed the life of a husband and wife from Woodland.

“At approximately 12:15 p.m., Trooper Todd Stetson and I responded to a crash involving a car and a motorcycle on Route 161 in T17 R4 (Cross Lake). Allan Rossignol, 50, of Woodland, was operating his 2012 Victory motorcycle northbound with his wife, Judy Rossignol, 52, as a passenger,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, Maine State Police. “Stephanie Dumais, 42, of Mapleton, was operating her 2007 Hyundai car southbound on Route 161.”

The motorcycle crossed the center line, hitting the car head-on.

“Rossignol drifted into the southbound lane, into the path of Dumais. Dumais and Rossignol struck head-on and both Allan and Judy were thrown from the motorcycle,” said Harris.

Dumais was transported by Caribou Ambulance to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment of a cut on her leg, while the Rossignols were transported to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent.

“Allan and Judy were transported by Fort Kent Ambulance to NMMC in Fort Kent. Allan died while en route to Fort Kent from severe injuries sustained in the accident. Judy also sustained severe injuries and died as a result after she arrived at NMMC,” said Harris.

The Rossignols were wearing helmets. Dumais was wearing a seatbelt. Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and North Lakes Fire and Rescue.
