WINTHROP – June P. Smart, 93, of Old Lewiston Road, died Saturday July 7, 2012 at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop.
She was born in Houlton on March 4, 1919, the daughter of William and Jenny (Kennedy) Lawrence.
June graduated from Houlton High School and attended Ricker College. She was a homemaker for most of her life but did work as secretary to the principal for a while at Houlton High School.
June married Atwood O. Smart on August 29, 1943. She and her husband enjoyed traveling with the family. She was active in the Women’s Organization at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Huntingdon Valley, PA. June was an avid golfer and bowler, who enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She also braided beautiful heirloom rugs and knitted ski sweaters for her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Atwood O. Smart; her siblings, Helen, Marjorie, Doris, Pauline, Kenneth and Linwood.
She is survived by a son, Jack Smart and his wife, Kimberly of Balston Spa, NY; a daughter, Elizabeth Vose and her husband, Edward, of Winthrop; three grand-children Kristen Tatangelo and her husband, Arty, of Cherryfield; Coree Paddock and her husband, Jason, of Schenectady, NY; Lindsay Dewey and her husband, Sean, of Rexford, NY; six great-grandchildren, Selena Bachelder, Deacon Paddock, Reese Dewey, Logan Paddock, Quinn Dewey and Orion Tatangelo; also several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center and MaineGeneral Health Reach Hospice.
Visiting will be held on Thursday, July 12 from 1-2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A funeral service will follow the visiting at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton.
