A group of 36 Danish farmers and interested parties were in Aroostook County July 2 to begin a tour of New England farms.
The group trip was organized by an organic crop advisor in Denmark who had been part of a tour of organic Danish grain producers visited by U.S. farmers and University of Maine research staff a year and a half ago, according to Angela Wotton, of the Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District.

The Danish group visited four farms in southern Aroostook — Wood Prairie Farm in Bridgewater, Nature’s Circle Farm in New Limerick, Lilley Farms in Smyrna and Aurora Mills in Linneus. The Southern Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District organized a farm picnic at Lilley Farms where the group was served locally grown food and presented with bottles of maple syrup donated by Spring Break Honey and Maple in Smyrna.
After touring southern Aroostook, the Danish group planned to visit farms in central Maine, Vermont, and Quebec.
