“Embedded Memories,” we all have them; yet potato houses? Yes quite embedded and certainly memorials to recent changes in Aroostook County agricultural practices.
A wee bit over 300 potato houses are pictured in author Roger Akeley’s 2011 book, “Embedded Memories,” with liberal color and most are identified by location. The book, recently acquired by the Cary Memorial Library in Houlton, is 125 pages in length, produced on high quality paper and features many Aroostook County-related facts, and gently written memories of planting, growing, harvesting, storing and marketing Maine’s spuds.
The book is recommended reading for any Aroostook County native. The Cary Library is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 532-1302.
