We always love it when one of our animals gets adopted and finds just the right home. Some animals find the right home right away while others take time as was in the case of a dog named Blue. Blue came to us from an Arkansas shelter at the end of March, she came with 10 other dogs. All the other dogs found just the right match with their new humans and left us with their tails wagging. Most have since been back to visit or we have received updates and pictures on them and all are doing well.
Blue was the first dog off the transport the day we picked them up in Hudson N.H. She came running to us with her tail wagging. She was one of the happiest dogs I had ever met. She looked at us with her one blue eye and one brown eye and melted our hearts. She had just traveled half way across the country in hopes of finding her new fur-ever home; she hopped in to our vehicle and never looked back.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to be Blue’s foster parents. She watched as the other dogs got adopted and silently waited knowing that her turn would eventually come. People would call to inquire about her and meet her but each time Blue was overlooked. The days turned into weeks and the weeks into months. It was very discouraging for us to see such a wonderful dog not being adopted.
Blue waited patiently for her new home and every day that went by made my heart ache for her. Every animal deserves a loving home and humans to care for them, at age one. Blue had never known this. Despite her unfortunate circumstances, Blue was the most energetic and loving dog, as the shelter in Arkansas put it “Blue loved the whole world.”
Finally, almost 3 months after Blue had arrived at the Ark, a young couple came into meet her and it was love at first sight. They spent some time with Blue and took her for a walk and then came in to do the necessary paperwork. The next day was Blue’s big day – she was finally going home. She left as usual with her tail wagging and happy. Being her foster mom I was very nervous for her, hoping that everything would work out. I hoped and waited for an update on Blue and just about a week later I received something even better, a visit from Blue and her new owners. Blue was doing wonderfully. She ran in the door came to me and sat down as if to say no worries I am fine and I love my new life.
As I watched her leave with her new owners I took a sense of pride in the work we do. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a happy dog in its new home and knowing that we helped to make that happen. There are no words to describe it, only smiles and in Blue’s case tail wags.
Thank you to Blue’s new family for seeing what no one else saw a sweet, brave, lovable girl in need of a fur-ever home. You both are Blue’s heroes. Thank you for making a difference in Blue’s life.
