Welcoming downtown is a team effort
To the editor:
Recently, members of the Downtown Revitalization Main Street Flower Committee had occasion to walk along Main Street as we supervised the placement of the flower barrels. We were struck by the lack of attention shown by some store owners and managers to their store fronts, sidewalk and windows.
Windows were dusty and unwashed, debris lay in the corners of the entrances, cigarette butts abounded, and leaves from last fall lay where they had landed.
In contrast, we saw sparkling windows and swept sidewalks that presented a clean, respectful face to visitors and residents of our community. These demonstrated a sense of pride in the establishments and welcomed customers and visitors to the businesses.
The flower barrels are placed on Main Street by the DTRC to enhance and beautify business areas. We would urge store owners to do their part in making our downtown area as attractive as possible. Just a few minutes each morning added to the “opening up” routine will present a clean, united front that welcomes all.
